Play is an important part of a child or young person’s healing process in hospital. It can help them feel less anxious and cope better with their illness and treatment.

We have indoor playrooms in wards and outpatient areas throughout the hospital. We also have outdoor gardens and a playground so families can enjoy some natural light and fresh air.

Entertainment Precinct

Our Entertainment Precinct on Level 6 is somewhere your child can go to smile, have fun and forget about being in hospital and their treatment for a while. It includes Kidzone, the Starlight Express Room and Radio Lollipop, which offer free activities, entertainment and supervised play so parents and carers can take a break.

Gardens

Our main garden is our rooftop garden looking over the Brisbane River and Southbank. There are also gardens for patients and families on levels 6, 8 and 9.

Rooftop garden

The rooftop garden gives patients, families and visitors a relaxing, outdoor place to enjoy away from the hospital setting.

It has a small lawn and shaded seating for you to relax, eat, and play, or just enjoy the river and city views.

How to get there

The garden is on Level 5.

You can use the A or B lifts.

From the lifts, head towards our Ronald McDonald House overnight accommodation (past 5a), where you’ll see a corridor on the right leading out to the garden.

The garden is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Playground

The hospital playground is for children of all ages and abilities, including those in wheelchairs or who have an IV drip or a monitoring device.

It also has interactive features for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, or are blind or have low vision.

How to get there

The playground is on the Level 2, just around the corner from the Raymond Terrace entrance or the food court.

The playground is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
