- Local community members with expertise spanning fields such as health, leadership and finance have been appointed to the Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Board.
- The Board consists of two new members, including Children’s Health Queensland physiotherapist Bronwyn Thompson and Brian Wyborn.
- The newly formed Board commences 1 April 2026.
A 10-person board with experience in health, leadership and finance has been appointed to help shape the future of children’s healthcare across Queensland.
The newly appointed Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Board will be led by continuing Chair Heather Watson.
Two new faces joining the Board in this round of appointments are Bronwyn Thompson and Brian Wyborn.
Bronwyn is the current Director of Physiotherapy at Children’s Health Queensland and a senior lecturer at The University of Queensland. She is also a three-time Olympian in long jump having competed in Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. Bronwyn draws on her experiences as an elite athlete and a paediatric physiotherapist to ensure children have the best chance of reaching their full potential.
Brian is a proud Torres Strait Islander and Papua New Guinean man committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. He brings more than 15 years’ experience in investments, governance, and strategic leadership, with a career spanning both public and private sectors. He currently serves as the Chief Investment Officer at Aboriginal Investment NT.
“The provision of safe, effective and sustainable person-centred care will continue to be a key priority for the Board,” Ms Watson said.
“I look forward to building on the strong foundations and relationships the Board has established and working together to lead and support life‑changing care for the children and young people of Queensland.”
Current Board members Will Fellowes (Deputy Chair), Suzanne Cadigan and Meredith Staib have been reappointed for further four-year terms.
The ten-member Board is rounded out with Inma Beaumont, Associate Professor Martin Byrne, Professor Simon Denny and Cheryl Herbert.
Ms Watson acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Board member Karina Hogan, whose service has concluded after seven years.
Children’s Health Queensland has joined all other Queensland Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) in welcoming a local front-line practitioner to its board.
Changes to the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 were announced last year, requiring all 16 of Queensland’s Hospital and Health Service Boards to include at least one Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency registered health practitioner currently working for its local HHS.
The Board changes come into effect on 1 April 2026.
