Your child’s ongoing care for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) will be shared with your child’s regular general practitioner (GP) with support from our community team, when needed.

What does this mean for my child?

This means that instead of coming to the CDP community clinic for ADHD check-ups and scripts, your GP will be able to do this for you. You can receive care closer to home by your regular GP who knows your child and family.

When do I need to see the GP?

  • Your doctor has sent a letter to your GP with information about your child’s ADHD management plan.
  • Make an appointment with your GP in eight (8) weeks’ time to discuss ongoing care and a plan for when the next script is due.
  • Your child should see their GP for an ADHD check-up at least every six (6) months for a long appointment. You can also see the GP between check-ups if needed.
  • Plan ahead to ensure you see the GP before your child’s ADHD medication runs out. Scripts last for six (6) months and cannot be renewed before five (5) months.

What will the GP do?

  • Your GP will check your child’s:
    • general health
    • growth (height and weight)
    • blood pressure
    • ADHD management
    • side effects of medication
  • You can raise any worries about your child.
  • Your GP will be able to consult with the CDP community team if needed.

What if my GP is not available?

If your GP is unavailable, make an appointment with another GP, preferably in the same clinic.
