Sepsis

Sepsis is a medical emergency and needs immediate treatment.

It happens when the body is fighting an infection but it starts to attack itself. Sepsis can damage many parts of the body and can even cause death. The best chance of getting better from sepsis is to treat it quickly.

While sepsis can affect anyone at any age, young children are at greater risk for sepsis. Across the world, 40 per cent of all sepsis cases are in children under five.
