About the plan
The Children’s Health Queensland Spiritual Care and Multi-faith Action Plan 2026–2029 recognises that children, families and staff come from diverse spiritual, cultural and religious backgrounds.
The Action Plan supports children and families to draw upon the beliefs, values, practices and sources of hope that sustain them during illness, trauma and times of vulnerability. The Spiritual Care Action Plan also promotes staff wellbeing and strengthens partnerships with faith communities to support culturally appropriate and inclusive care.
Objectives
The Action Plan focuses on 4 key areas:
- Patients and families: improve access and referral pathways for multi-faith spiritual care, explore opportunities for spiritual screening, and provide faith-appropriate support, information, rites and rituals.
- Community and partnerships: strengthen existing relationships with faith services and develop new partnerships that expand the spiritual care options available to children and families.
- Staff spiritual wellbeing: expand staff faith-service options, establish the Rainbow of Faith consultative process, and promote Spiritual Care Week activities.
- Quality and inclusion: embed safe, inclusive and respectful multi-faith practices through staff orientation, service procedures, cultural awareness initiatives and collaboration with clinical teams.
The overarching vision is for every child, family and staff member to have their spiritual, cultural and religious needs recognised, respected, included and supported as an essential part of healing and wellbeing. This plan was co-designed with multi faith representatives, consumers and staff.
