Early feeding and support (drop-in clinics)

Available for the first four weeks after hospital discharge for new babies. These clinics are available at the following venues between 9am and noon (no appointment required, closed on public holidays). The focus is on supporting early infant feeding, early infant parenting concerns and to support parents in the transition from hospital to community child health services.

Key age child health checks

Parents can monitor the health, wellbeing and development of their child in partnership with child health nurses following the schedule of contact visits at key ages set out in the Personal Health Record (PHR) book – 2, 4, 6, 12 months. The checks cover:

  • weight, height, body mass index (BMI), and length
  • clinical measurements—for example, breathing and developmental reflexes
  • vision
  • hearing.

These key age checks are also available at the family doctor.

Parenting groups

Early parenting groups are provided for parents with infants between birth and three months. Groups allow for the sharing of health information around early parenting with a focus on support. Parent education seminars are provided for parents with older infants between four and 18 months with a focus on topical child health and parenting issues. For the location of groups ask at your local Child Health Centre.

Infant feeding and parent support program (extended consultation 4-6 hours)

Available if parents require additional support for feeding concerns in infants less than six months of age. Appointments and referral are required. Enquire with the child health nurse for further details.

Additional parenting programs

Designed for parents of toddlers and young children up to eight years. Parenting programs, seminars and individual counselling sessions offer parenting solutions to help solve current problems and prevent future problems before they arise. Bookings required.

Immunisation services

A free immunisation clinic for children (birth to five years) is held on the first and third Thursday of every month at the Zillmere Community Child Health Centre (426 Zillmere Road). The clinic runs from 10am to noon. No booking is required. Brisbane City, Logan and Moreton Bay Regional councils also provide free vaccinations. For clinic times and locations contact the councils directly. General practitioners also provide immunisation services.
