Respiratory and Sleep Medicine
The Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Department provides care for children with respiratory and sleep disorders. Our respiratory clinics help children with difficult asthma, bronchiectasis, chronic lung disease, airway disorders, tracheostomies and nasopharyngeal tubes, congenital and surgical lung disorders, respiratory oncology conditions, general respiratory conditions and cystic fibrosis.
We also provide sleep medicine clinics for children with respiratory (including non-invasive and invasive ventilation) and non-respiratory sleep disorders. Our services include:
- flexible bronchoscopy
- lung function testing
- comprehensive paediatric sleep medicine services including full polysomnography and multi-sleep latency tests, actigraphy, trendable oximetry and carbon dioxide monitoring.

Outreach Clinics
Available throughout Queensland (usually twice per year) in the following locations:
- Gold Coast

- Rockhampton

Telehealth Clinics
Telehealth clinics are available throughout Queensland as needed, along with electronic and telephone support.
Who can access this service?
New patients
Referrals are accepted up to a child’s 16th birthday.
Existing patients with complex care needs
Referrals are accepted up to a child’s 18th birthday (patients are usually transitioned to adult services by this time).
Catchment area
The service is available to children living in Queensland and northern New South Wales. Services are also available to children living in other areas in adherence with state and national agreements.

You will need a formal referral to access this service.
How do I get a referral?
Referrals are accepted from:
- general practitioners
- paediatric specialists.
Other referral information
Please bring the following items to your appointment:
- Medicare card
- list of current medications
- any relevant tests or x-rays
- any private health insurance details
- pension/healthcare/Department of Veteran Affairs cards
- a relevant VISA/passport/birth certificate
- an updated referral (if required).
