Queensland Specialist Immunisation Service

The Queensland Specialist Immunisation Service provides vaccination advice for children with complex medical health problems as well as children who have experienced, or are at risk of an adverse event following immunisation. Our team of immunisation specialists includes senior medical, nursing and allied health staff.

Immunisation Centre

Families are encouraged to visit the Immunisation Centre while visiting the hospital to check their immunisation status. This service is especially important for families who have limited access to immunisation services at their local health care service.

Our Specialist Immunisation Clinic provides immunisation services to children who:

  • have previously had an adverse event following immunisation or are at risk of a significant adverse event
  • have an underlying complex medical condition
  • require post immunisation supervision in a hospital setting.

Thursdays | 1pm-4pm
Fridays | 10am-2pm

Who can access this service?

Queensland Specialist Immunisation Service

This service is available statewide via the telephone advice line and telehealth.

Immunisation Centre

This service is available to patients and families accessing services at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

Catchment area

This service is available to children living in Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

Telehealth appointments are also available to patients living outside the catchment area when clinically appropriate.

The Queensland Specialist Immunisation Service provides vaccination advice for children with complex medical health problems as well as children who have experienced, or are at risk of an adverse event following immunisation. Our team of immunisation specialists includes senior medical, nursing and allied health staff.

Specialist Immunisation Clinic

The Specialist Immunisation Clinic uses an outpatient and telehealth model and is coordinated by a senior medical officer and nurse practitioner. All consultations are bulk billed for Medicare card holders.

Telephone advice

In the first instance health professionals are encouraged to seek immunisation advice from their local Public Health Unit. For immunisation enquiries unable to be met by Public Health, a specialist paediatric immunisation telephone advice line is available at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

This specialist immunisation advice line offers advice on children with complex immunisation needs or children who have experienced, or are at risk of, an adverse event following immunisation.

To access this service call the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital switchboard and you will be redirected to one of the immunisation specialists at the hospital.

The service is available Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm excluding public holidays.

Who may benefit from this service

Specialist Immunisation Clinic

  • Children who have previously experienced, or at risk of an adverse event following immunisation.
  • Children who are at medical risk from vaccine preventable disease.
  • Children with underlying complex medical health problems (includes oncology transplant, immune suppression).
  • Children who require supervision following immunisation.

Immunisation Centre

  • Children and families not up to date with their vaccinations under the National Immunisation Program schedule (NIPs).
