Paediatric Trauma Service
In Queensland, the Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH) is the only dedicated Major Trauma Centre (MTC) dedicated to treating children. Trauma management involves:
- injury prevention
- clinical care
- communication
- quality management
- education
- leadership
- research.
We provide a consultancy service to all trauma patients (admitted for more than 24 hours) and their families. We also provide a liaison service between the treating medical teams and allied health professionals. The service coordinates the care of approximately 900 trauma admissions (of greater than 24 hours) each year.
Who can access this service?
The Paediatric Trauma Service is involved with the care of trauma admissions from birth to a child’s 16th birthday.
Catchment area
This service is available to children living in Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a formal referral to access this service.
How do I get a referral?
Referrals are made to specific sub-specialties e.g. Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery. The Paediatric Trauma service is involved in the care of patients admitted for greater than 24 hours.
