Children’s Health Queensland HIV Service
The Children’s Health Queensland HIV Service provides care and treatment for children and young people (up to 16 years) with HIV infection in Queensland.
Our multidisciplinary team also provides consultation for pregnant mothers who have HIV infection and follow up care for their newborns. We work closely with other care providers, including GPs, adult infection specialists, paediatricians and obstetricians.
Clinics
The following clinics are available at the Queensland Children’s Hospital
For children and young people
Outpatient HIV clinics
Tuesday, 9.30am to 12.30pm
Telehealth consults for patients who live outside Southeast Queensland are available between 9am and 12.30pm.
For pregnant women
HIV consultations for pregnant women and the management of their newborns.
Tuesdays between 9am and 11.30am.

Who can access this service?
The service is available to children and young people with HIV infection (birth to 16 years), and pregnant women with HIV infection living in Queensland.
Referral information
For children and young people
A formal referral from a GP, obstetrician, paediatrician/neonatologist, or adult infection specialist is required for newborns of women with HIV infection, and children and young people with HIV infection. Referrals are accepted up to a young person’s 16th birthday.
Existing patients are usually transitioned to adult services by the age of 18 years old or at the end of Grade 12.
For pregnant women
A formal referral from a GP, obstetrician or adult infection specialist is required for pregnant women with HIV infection.
