Children’s Health Queensland Retrieval Service

The Children’s Health Queensland Retrieval Service (CHQRS) provides a specialist paediatric transport service for critically ill children and adolescents throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales. This includes:

Transfer (retrieval) of critical and time-critical patients

  • Evaluating the practicality and clinical need for transport and if necessary, retrieval will be organised with appropriate clinical staff and transport arranged via road vehicle, fixed wing aircraft (plane) or rotary wing aircraft (helicopter).
  • Coordination of specialist retrieval teams including extra corporeal life support (ECLS).

Clinical telephone advice and telehealth

  • Specialist medical practitioners provide advice on the care of critically ill children to the local hospital or referring clinicians.
