A child and adolescent psychiatrist, Professor Christel Middeldorp holds a conjoint appointment with Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service and The University of Queensland.
Professor Middeldorp’s research focuses on identifying factors, including genetic influences, impacting on the outcomes of psychopathology across the lifespan. This knowledge can then be used to develop targeted treatments for the children and families in highest need.
In 2019, Christel was appointed by the federal Health Minister as co-chair of the Childhood Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy Working Party for the Australian Government. She is also an elected board member of the Australian ADHD Professional Association. In 2017, she received the Ülkü Ülgür, MD, International Scholar Award from American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), which is established to honour international child and adolescent psychiatrists who have significantly enhanced mental health services for children and adolescents around the world.
