Arts at Queensland Children’s Hospital

The Queensland Children’s Hospital Arts Program brings memorable and inspiring works of art and cultural experiences to patients, families, staff and visitors. The diverse range of visual art, interactive creative events and performance pieces transform our hospital into the warm, supportive and engaging environment needed to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

Evidence based research suggests that the presence of visual art, involvement in creative activities and musical, cultural and theatrical performances can contribute to positive health outcomes for patients. The arts also provides patients, families, staff and visitors with a welcome distraction from what is often a stressful environment, and serves as a reassuring reminder of the meaningful and enjoyable aspects of life.

Arts-in-health programs also provide children, particularly long-stay patients, with a sense of connection to the world outside of the hospital. Our art collection showcases works by Queensland-born and based artists as well as those with an important connection to the state, such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Many of the artworks in our collection are regularly moved and displayed in different locations throughout the hospital. This gives new patients, families and staff members the opportunity to see more of the wonderful pieces of art in our collection.

Arts-in-health programs are internationally recognised as improving the hospital experience by promoting the power of the creative imagination. Read more
