Yarrabilba hub to support the health and learning of local families
8 October 2018
Yarrabilba’s newest hub, The Family and Community Place, today opened its doors offering educational, social and health-related activities for the community, particularly families with young children.
The $3.6 million facility, located at 3 Darnell Street, aims to ensure local families are supported to give their children the best possible start in life.
Construction of the hub was funded by the Queensland Government, while the Community Hub and Partnerships (CHaPS) program has brought together industry, government and community groups to deliver services.
Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service will manage the centre and coordinate the delivery of programs and services for the first year to establish it in the community.
Children’s Health Queensland’s Executive Director of Clinical Services, Frank Tracey, said the Family and Community Place aims to provide a meeting place for the community, develop neighbourhood connections and provide vital health and learning support services.
“By co-locating services and providing programs that support early childhood and health development, we are helping families in one of the state’s fastest-growing master-planned communities give their children the best start in life,” Mr Tracey said.
“In coming months there will be regular visits from child health nurses, Justices of the Peace, officers from The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, and more.
“Programs and activities including the Queensland Government’s early learning and literacy program First 5 Forever, a bike-fixing shed, book exchange, and a toy and puzzle library will also be available.
“Residents and families are invited to come down and meet the CHQ team to hear about what great things are planned for the hub.”
