

Preparing for your virtual appointment

Set-up the room
Clear the top of your desk, remove distractions including pets or anything that may interrupt the session.

Minimise background noise
Turn off the TV and, where possible, have siblings play in a different room.

Optimise lighting
Help the clinician to see your faces by turning on the lights and
avoiding sitting directly in front of a window with sunlight.

Choose a supportive chair
Find a chair for your child to sit in that will support their posture for learning. High chairs and booster seats can be helpful for young children. Avoid office chairs with wheels.

Set-up your technology
Ensure your computer/tablet/phone has a camera and you have a reliable internet connection.

Have toys and activities ready to share
Help your child choose some books or toys to share with their clinician. Your clinician will choose some of their favourites to share with you.

Just before your appointment
Encourage your child to go to the bathroom, have a quick drink and healthy snack so they can make the most of their session. Be ready to go 5 minutes before your session.
