Foster children

Children and young people living in foster care are often at risk of significant health issues. Parental substance abuse, neglect, physical abuse and mental illness are common among foster children and have a negative impact on their health and wellbeing. Children’s Health Queensland is dedicated to helping foster children and their carers start on a pathway towards a healthier future.

Evolve Therapeutic Services is a statewide program providing therapeutic and behavioural support to children and young people involved in child protection orders and living in out-of-home care. The program also offers free training to foster carers which focuses on being able to provide care that meets each child’s needs, supports their neurobiological development and helps them deal with the effects of trauma, abuse and living out-of-home.
