Queensland Paediatric Transport Triage Tools

The Children’s Advice and Transport Co-ordination Hub (CATCH) and Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ) have collaboratively developed a medical and a trauma paediatric transport triage tool. The tools are designed to assist decision making regarding the safe inter-hospital transfer of paediatric patients.

Unsure if your patient requires a critical inter-hospital transfer?

The Queensland Paediatric Transport Triage Tool – Medical and Queensland Paediatric Transport Triage Tool – Trauma each use a combination of individual physiological parameters, the total Children’s Early Warning Tool (CEWT) score and specific condition triggers, to identify patients who have a significant risk of deterioration during inter-hospital transfer.

Queensland Paediatric Transport Triage Tool - Medical

The Queensland Paediatric Transport Triage Tool – Medical has been validated on 2,056 children transferred into and out of Queensland Children’s Hospital.

The tool had a negative predictive value of 97.7% suggesting that it safely identifies those children who do not require activation of the critical pathway for inter-hospital transfer.
