Access QCH

Expression of interest – Patient and family focus groups

Patients, family, carers, the community and staff have a right to influence how care and services are provided. Children’s Health Queensland is committed to working with our patients and families to continually improve the healthcare we provide and ensuring that your voices are at the centre of shaping our healthcare services.

Following the launch of the Children’s Health and Wellbeing Services Plan 2018-2028, the Access QCH program was established with the aim to address Strategy 2.1: “Maximise the capacity of the Queensland Children’s Hospital through increased efficiency, patient flow and alignment of infrastructure and resources to demand.”

Access QCH incorporates a number of different projects across key areas of the hospital, including:

  • Emergency department
  • Hospital in the home
  • Inpatient wards
  • Oncology
  • Surgical services (i.e. surgical admission lounge, operating theatres)

What is involved?

Children’s Health Queensland is seeking input from patients, families and carers into a co-design process to inform solution design and improvement initiatives. Your involvement will help us achieve sustainable change that will have a positive impact on families with a child requiring these services at our hospital.

We will be running a number of focus groups with patient, family and community representatives. Focus groups are guided group discussions where participants have the opportunity to share their thoughts, feelings, attitudes and ideas on different questions and subjects presented by the group facilitators.

The focus groups will be two hours in length and will take place in August / September 2019.

Who can take part?

We are currently seeking representatives with experience at the Queensland Children’s Hospital in relation to:

  • admission from the emergency department to the ward
  • experience of surgery (preparation, admission, theatre, recovery)
  • receiving care closer to home
  • discharge from hospital.
